A Buncombe County fire department's excellence is helping some homeowners save money. North Carolina's insurance commissioner on Tuesday congratulated the Fairview Fire Department on improving its protection class grade. The improved rating will reduce home insurance rates for homeowners in the department's district. Fairview Fire Chief Scott Jones said consistent hard work earned the new rating. "It's a daily thing around here. They constantly are training, inspecting and maintaining all of our apparatus.
