A little rain wasn't to enough to improve dry conditions that are fueling a wildfire burning in the Pisgah National Forest. Officials estimate the White Creek Fire has scorched some 585 acres. That's about eight times the size of what it was Friday.
The fire is not contained.
It's burning near Shortoff Mountain, at the south end of the Linville Gorge Wilderness, a rugged area that tough to access and maneuver in.
Officials say with winds forecast to pick up, smoke will move across areas to the south and east, around Lake James and Morganton.
Close to 150 firefighters are working the blaze and doing burnout control-operations.
