An apartment fire broke out Saturday night at the Ambercrest apartment complex on Old Oak Drive in Winston-Salem. The occupants of the unit were not home, Assistant Fire Chief Harry Brown said. Five people and two dogs were displaced by the fire. The fire was under control around 9:30 p.m., he said. There was $80,000 in damage reported. Firefighters were still on the scene late Saturday.
