Authorities are investigating what caused a fire that destroyed a home in west Buncombe County on Thursday. The call came in just after 11:30 a.m. for a home on Sydney Lane. Flames could be seen coming through the roof of the home as crews battled the blaze. The chief of West Buncombe Fire Department said nobody was home at the time of the fire, and its only resident has recently been moved into a nursing home. There was one pet was home at the time, but it wasn't harmed. Authorities say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
