After narrowing a field of 20 candidates to five finalists, the town of Elkin has announced its new fire chief.
Matthew P. Crawford of Marion will assume the position of fire chief effective the final week of April, according to a news release from the town.
“Mr. Crawford comes with a variety of experiences including building inspection, firefighting, fire prevention specialist and firefighting instruction,” said the release from town officials. In addition to a number of academic degrees in firefighting and emergency management, Crawford recently received a degree in fire and emergency services management from Fayetteville State University.
“We look forward to Mr. Crawford joining the Elkin Fire Department as fire chief,” said Town Manager John Holcomb. “He will be part of a department of dedicated men and women who are focused on keeping the citizens of Elkin safe.”
