New equipment is on its way to the Winterville Community Fire Department, thanks to a nearly $15,000 grant.
The money will be used to buy new helmets, additional fire hoses and thermal imaging cameras.
"Using this grant is going to enable us to stay on top of the change in personal protection equipment requirements and keep our firefighters healthy, so we can continue to serve the community,” said assistant chief Spence Evans.
The department was one of 12 in Pitt County that received grants.
The money is from the state's 2018 volunteer fire department fund.
