A Fairfield Harbour home was destroyed after an explosion in the garage burned down the house and sent shockwaves that damaged neighbor’s houses.
The fire was reported at 12:40 p.m.
According to witnesses at the scene, the owner of the 1808 Caracara Drive home, Kaiser Fogle, was working with the family’s gas powered dryer when an explosion resulted that sent the garage door in pieces across the road, some of its sections landing nearly 100 feet away in some woods.
Fogle himself was burned, though he was lucid at the scene before being transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman stated he was being treated and was listed in stable condition.
“He told me he was turning on the dryer and it blew up,” a neighbor, Carmine Buschemi, said. “I don’t know how he lived.”
