One person was hospitalized following a house fire Sunday night that destroyed the residence. According to Fire Investigator James Hyler, Tabernacle, Westside and Guil-Rand fire departments responded to the fire at 821 Hoover Hill Road, Asheboro, at approximately 6:15 p.m. Hyler reported that there was a quick response time by all of the firefighters and that it took around 20 minutes for the flames to be extinguished. The only occupant of the residence was transported by EMS and is recovering from burns to his hands at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Hyler said the residence was extensively damaged and described it as a “total loss.” The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but due to the amount of damage, Hyler is unsure if they will be able to determine how the fire began.
