A Cool Springs firefighter who has volunteered with the department for more than 20 years was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash Tuesday morning. Ray Elmore, assistant fire chief of Cool Springs Volunteer Fire Department, is in surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Fire Chief Andy Webster is asking people to pray for his long-time colleague. “We’re here at Baptist Hospital to see what happens,” Webster said. “Pretty serious injuries from what I’ve been told.” The crash happened before 7 a.m. on Charlotte Highway south of Troutman, according to Webster. He said Elmore was riding his motorcycle when a vehicle hit him head-on and ran him over.
