‘Beyond devastating’: Man dies in Coweta house fire

VIDEO: Coweta authorities are investigating a deadly house fire. Several people were inside at the time, and one man didn’t make it out. “It’s beyond devastating,” said Melody Addington. For nearly 30 years, Melody Addington has seen the home next door. Now, it’s nearly unrecognizable. Everything in the backyard is charred. There are piles of debris in the garage, and the roof is destroyed at the Coweta home. “Literally, it started in the back and then just engulfed the whole front,” said Addington. Firefighters first got the call around 6:15 pm on May 10. Fire Chief Brian Woodward said within four and a half minutes, they were battling the flames. “It’s just devastating that you work your life to build a home and a family and all the stuff that you have, and it’s all gone within seconds,” said Addington.

Family gets to safety after fire starts inside Edmond home

Authorities say a family got to safety after a fire sparked early Monday morning at a home in an Edmond neighborhood. Around 5:45 a.m., crews responded to a fire at a home along Glacier Lane near Danforth Road and Santa Fe Avenue. Edmond Fire Department officials told KOCO 5 that the fire started on the back porch and spread to the attic. The family inside the home was able to make it out safely, officials said. The inside of the home suffered a lot of fire and smoke damage, according to the fire department. Sky 5, which is the only news helicopter in the air on weekday mornings, saw fire damage to part of the home and that crews had to get onto the roof to provide some venting to get to the flames. The fire has been extinguished. The cause is under investigation.
