Firefighters from Winston Fire Department and Douglas County Fire District No.2 were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 99 and Grange Rd Thursday morning. While responding, a report came in that there were multiple patients and one of them was trapped, so an additional DCFD2 ambulance was dispatched, according to an agency news release. Fire officials say the accident occurred between two mid-sized cars and both sustained significant damage. One of the drivers was trapped and fire crews were able to remove him from the vehicle with the use of extrication tools. Officials say crews worked quickly to ensure the scene was safe and assessed all patients to determine the severity of their injuries. Both were transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center for further evaluation. WFD responded with 1 fire engine, DCFD2 responded with 1 fire engine, 2 ambulances, and 2 command units. Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Winston Police Department assisted at the scene.
