The Illinois Valley Fire District is the latest victim of the crime wave plaguing the City of Cave Junction. The Josephine County Sheriff's Office was investigating a report this week that more than $6,000 worth of equipment was stolen off a fire truck parked at Station #1 on Caves Highway. According to IV Fire District Public Information Officer Jason Bayless, the thief or thieves stole medical equipment and a rope bag used in rescues. It was not disclosed whether there are any suspects in the incident. The Sheriff's Office has a contract with the City of Cave Junction to provide law enforcement services for 40 hours each week, but most of the crime occurring in Josephine County's second-largest city is occurring during the off-hours.
