Albany will be the sole provider for fire protection services in Millersburg under a new, 10-year intergovernmental agreement the Albany City Council approved Wednesday.
Right now, Millersburg works with both Albany and Jefferson for fire protection, paying Albany $2 per $1,000 of assessed property value for coverage of the south part of town.
Albany has provided coverage since 1974, but the current rural fire protection district agreement is scheduled to expire in 2023. Millersburg has asked to contract with a single entity for coverage of the entire city and has requested Albany provide that service, Albany Fire Chief John Bradner told city officials in an April 17 report.
