Douglas County Fire District No. 2 firefighters battled a stubborn house fire at 742 Rosewood Drive in the Melrose area that was reported at 1:56 p.m. Thursday. Responding crews reported heavy smoke visible from the Elgarose Road area. Firefighters arrived to find single-wide mobile home with multiple additions and active fire in the front living room area. The home owner was using a garden hose to spray water into the room through an open window, and she advised that everyone was out of the residence. The first responding crew was able to extinguish the fire in the front living room area. However, the fire had traveled up the wall and entered a void space in the attic.
