The Red Cross is assisting three Otis residents after a structure fire destroyed a recreational vehicle and a house they were living in.
North Lincoln Fire & Rescue was dispatched at 4 a.m. on Sunday, June 17, to a recreational vehicles fire that was spreading to the house it was parked next to. An occupant sleeping in a 31-foot 1999 5th wheeler trailer awoke to flames and she attempted to wake the property owners, located at 284 N. Deerlane Drive in Otis.
Fire crews reported that the trailer was fully engulfed in fire as they arrived. The crews were able to put the blaze out quickly.
NLFR Capt. Jim Kusz said the 5th wheeler was completely destroyed by the rapid blaze and the fire spread to the roof of the nearby house, severely damaging that structure.
NLFR Marshal Ed Ulrich determined that fire was "accidental in nature."
