A woman pulled from a burning second story bedroom got to again meet her rescuers Friday at a luncheon honoring their bravery.
The Red Cross hosted the 21st Annual Heroes Breakfast event at the Vancouver Hilton Friday morning, highlighting “ordinary people and their extraordinary and lifesaving actions.” Among those recognized were Clackamas Fire District #1 firefighters Scott Kohler and Matt Towner. Last September, they pulled Dea Hammons out of a second story window of a burning home.
Hammons, who lives in Kansas City, was visiting friends at the time. Flames had trapped her, and the firefighters in the bedroom.
"The fire started taking over the rest of the house so we had to go out the window,” said Kohler. “So we took Dea out the window!”
Towner said “We weren't leaving without Dea.”
