Emergency crews responded to two separate house fires that broke out in Central Point Sunday. The first fire occurred at the 1200 block of Freeman Road. The single-family fire affected four adults and pets. Jackson County Fire District Three says a second fire that occurred on East Pine Street took fifteen minutes to extinguish. At least three people and two dogs were inside the home when the fire began. Crews say they saw black smoke coming from the second floor upon arrival. One firefighter responding to the incident suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Crews reported extreme heat when initially attacking the flames. "Once they got to the top of the stairs, they encountered the heat, so they decided to back down, and then we attacked it from the outside to kind of take the energy out of the fire," says Battalion Chief Mike Calhoun. "Once that was reset, then they made their way back upstairs to finish it off."
