A Lake Oswego family of four who was awakened at night to the sound of a 17-year-old boy throwing a Molotov cocktail into their kitchen -- which caught on fire -- has filed a $5.5 million lawsuit against the arsonist's parents.
The lawsuit claims that Thomas and Alison Toal knew "well before" their son, Travis Toal, was arrested in December 2016 that he had committed the crime. But even so, the parents failed to notify law enforcement and are liable for "hiding" what their son had done, the suit alleges.
The suit -- filed by Trudy and Christopher Corrigan and their two children, Keely and Rory -- says the family anguished in uncertainty over whether the unknown arsonist would return before DNA from the crime scene helped identify Travis Toal as the culprit and he was arrested 2.5 years later.
