Upstate student uses Eagle Scout project to help Powdersville firefighters

VIDEO: A high school senior is using his Eagle Scout project to help out a local volunteer fire department. Konner Wacenske created a gear dryer for Powdersville Volunteer Fire Department to help the firefighter dry their gear after going on scene. Wacenske decided to create his project out of PVC pipes to cut down the cost. “It’s a volunteer fire department so they don’t necessarily have the funds that any other fire departments would have normally. They are always looking for special options and I’m just glad I can give them an option, " said Wacenske. Corey McDowell, Chief at Powdersville Fire Department said it takes two to three days to fully air dry their gear. If the firefighters get a call when the gear is not fully dry they have to wear spare gear that might not fit.

Firefighters respond to 2 men stomped by bull while working in Cherokee County pasture

Two men were stomped by a bull while working Sunday evening leaving one in a life-threatening condition in Cherokee County. According to the Cherokee-Kings Creek Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters responded to DK’s Creek and Pasture along McGill Highway for two men whom the bull had stomped. Family members said Brian Oliver and Mike Carroll were working on a fence at a cow pasture when they were attacked by a bull. The bull drug Oliver into a creek bed hole, and began trampling him. That’s when Carroll stepped in, pulled out a knife, and started stabbing the bull to get it off of Oliver, firefighters said. The bull then turned its attention to Carroll and started attacking him but not before he could call for help. The fire department and EMS arrived at the scene and rendered aid to Oliver and Carroll, but due to the extent of their injuries, they decided to bring in two helicopters.
