Oak Grove Fire in Washington County reaches 50 percent containment


PHOTOS: Crews have reached 50 percent containment on a fire that broke out near the Oak Grove Campground in Washington County. The wildfire started Monday around 3:30 p.m., when officials said a utility task vehicle (UTV) or side-by-side caught fire. The fire spread into the bushes from 5 acres to 22. Firefighters were called to the scene in the Dixie National Forest in an area about 10 miles northwest of Leeds off Interstate 15. State wildfire officials said Tuesday morning the fire was still at 22 acres after “minimal activity” overnight. Five fire engines, a helicopter and hotshot crew were working to extinguish the flames.

Intermountain Life Flight unveils K9 transport service for injured service dogs


VIDEO: In a unique collaboration with local veterinarians, specialized animal hospitals, and public safety agencies, Intermountain Life Flight, one of the nation’s premier medical transport programs, is launching a specialized operational K9 transport service. This new service will provide transport for operational K9’s needing emergent medical care or who are injured in the line of duty in Utah. Representatives from Intermountain Life Flight, participating veterinarians, and law enforcement and public agency dog handlers and officers recently unveiled the new Intermountain Life Flight Operations K9 Transport Program and explained how this new air transport program aims to save these animals who are injured while serving the public. Dog handlers and their animals from more than a dozen public safety agencies joined the recent announcement.

Tandem bike riders taken to hospital after hitting deer near south entrance of Zion National Park


Two people riding a tandem bicycle on Sunday evening collided with a deer near the south entrance of Zion National Park, authorities say. The incident occurred between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. National Park Service rangers responded along with paramedics from Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue and officers from the Springdale Police Department, Jonathan Shafer, Zion National Park’s public information officer, told St. George News in an email. Shafer did not go into detail concerning the condition of the tandem bicycle’s riders, yet confirmed both were transported to St. George Regional Hospital for care.
