A city committee tasked with identifying a new fire chief has pared the list of candidates to three or four candidates from almost 40 applications. Meanwhile, the Board of Aldermen on Monday agreed to the terms of a new three-year contract for unionized firefighters. Alderwoman Sharon Davis, president of the board, gave a brief update Monday on the search for a new fire chief. At a meeting Oct. 25, the fire chief search committee reviewed the 37 applications the city received for the chief’s position. The committee met in executive session to “whittle that list down.” Davis said the number was cut to 15 and then reduced again to eight. Davis said the committee started scheduling interviews and reduced the number to four. “Those four candidates will be invited to the city for a face-to-face interview,” she said. “So I believe the process is getting close to results.”
