Fire crews raced to Meadowbrook Acres Inc. just after 11 p.m. Saturday for a barn fire. Smoldering straw and burned machine parts is all that was left. "It was pretty much engulfed by the time the rest of the equipment got on-scene,” Milton Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Chris Poirier said. Meadowbrook Acres is a maple sugar shack and dairy farm along Lake Road in Milton. No cows or people were hurt. "They lost two tractors, an excavator and a skid-steer in the fire, plus, of course, the hay bales,” Poirier said. The farm lost around 5,000 hay bales. “It's contaminated,” Poirier said. “(The hay) can't be used for feed for the animals. At this point, it's good for nothing."
