Chief Gary McQueen began his career as a student firefighter in 1976 while attending Sandy High School, and became a volunteer firefighter in 1980. In 1982 he graduated from Chemeketa Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science. While attending Chemeketa he was a resident volunteer with the Turner Fire District.

He was hired by the Lake Oswego Fire Department in 1983 where he served for 17 years,
serving in all ranks up to Battalion Chief. In 2000, he was appointed as the Chief of the Sandy Fire District and retired from Sandy Fire in 2013 after 37 years of service. Gary is currently the Deputy Chief of the Estacada Fire District and a flight paramedic for Life Flight Network, based out of Pendleton, OR.

Gary is the past Fire Defense Board Chief of Clackamas County, past president of the
Clackamas 800 Radio group and past president of the executive board of the Clackamas
County 911 center, CCOM. He is a Paramedic, a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer
Program at the National Fire Academy and a certified strike team task force leader. He is an
OFCA life member, has served on the Constitution and Bylaws committee, and is currently
serving on the Volunteer 360 Task Force.

 He and his family enjoy camping, hiking, travelling, hunting, boating and wakeboarding in the waters of Oregon.
