Fire truck overturns in Perry on way to RV crash

A Houston County Fire engine overturned in Perry on Wednesday evening, according to Perry Fire Capt. Jesse Riner. He says it happened at the intersection of Carroll and Main Street at around 5:50 p.m. The county fire department was heading to an RV wreck on the interstate, but it overturned on the way to the crash, Riner said. He says no one was injured. According to Riner, Main Street at Carroll was closed as they worked to clear the road. Crews were working to flip the truck and get it upright, and a tow truck arrived on the scene to help tow the truck away. According to Houston County Fire Chief Chris Stoner, they are "working through" that, but he said they have since gotten the truck towed away. He says the road has since reopened.

Atlanta Fire Union proposes safety surcharge on event tickets to fund vital equipment

The Atlanta Fire Union has a novel idea to help buy some lifesaving equipment. They are suggesting a new surcharge on concert tickets and sports events that could raise millions of dollars for Atlanta. Atlanta is a desirable city for high-profile concerts like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, as well as the SEC Championships and Falcons’ games. The Atlanta Fire Union has touted a new plan to add a surcharge to ticket sales to fund much needed equipment. Swifties will pay exorbitant amounts to see their superstar in concert. The Atlanta Fire Union wants to get some of that money. They are proposing a 3% surcharge on those already costly tickets to fund the much-needed fire equipment. Under the proposal, Fulton County would get 1%, but Atlanta would get 2%, which translates into $4.27 million from just one concert series over three days.
