Accident At Feed Mill In Kosciusko County Was A Delicate And Intricate Extrication


The extrication of a man from an auger at Maple Leaf Farms Feed Mill required specifically trained firefighters in a delicate and intricate task Wednesday morning, May 8. The man, reported to be in his 20s, had his left leg caught in the auger up to the groin. Tactical rescue equipment was needed to free the man’s foot and leg from a sweep auger at the bottom of an empty grain bin. Firefighters trained in tactical rescue from Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, Elkhart, Goshen and Clay Township in Elkhart County responded. Milford Assistant Fire Chief Todd Haines stated firefighters from Milford and Turkey Creek Fire Territory do not have the training, nor the equipment for such a rescue. Milford Fire Department received the call at approximately 8:41 a.m. of a man with a leg caught in an auger.

Woman severely burned after crash on Indianapolis’ east side


The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an early morning crash that left a woman severely burned According to IMPD, just before 12:30 a.m., a vehicle occupied by an adult female and 2-year-old passenger was driving eastbound on Interstate 70, when she ran off the ramp into the side of a building in the 4800 block of E. 23rd St. Police said the woman suffered burns from the crash and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition. The 2-year-old child was taken to Riley’s Children’s Hospital at IU Health, but police say the child was not injured. The driver was being investigated for driving intoxicated, but police believe that she may have been going through a medical emergency while driving.

1 found dead, another severely burned, one firefighter injured at Carmel strip mall fire


VIDEO: One person was found dead, another was seriously injured and a firefighter suffered minor injuries in a fire at a Carmel strip mall early Thursday. Around 3:15 a.m. May 9, Carmel Police Department officers responded to a welfare check in the 9800 block of North Michigan Road, just north of West 96th Street. Officers arrived and found a female in the street yelling for help and severely burned, Carmel Fire Department spokesperson Tim Griffin told 13News. A fire was discovered at a strip mall nearby, and fire crews arrived to find heavy fire coming through the roof of the building. Crews worked for an extended period to knock down the fire, pulling out of the building at one point after the ceiling collapsed. A male victim was found dead inside the building. The female victim was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.

Cass County First Responders to Receive Lithium Ion Battery Safety Training


Cass County bolsters its emergency response capabilities with a new training initiative focused on lithium ion battery safety. The Cass County Emergency Management Agency announced a $6,450 funding boost from Duke Energy to enhance area public safety in handling lithium ion batteries and other hazardous materials. A specialized training session is scheduled for June 21, providing first responders with hands-on techniques to manage battery emergencies safely. According to the agency, the training, held at the Local Emergency Planning Committee, builds on last year’s efforts and introduces advanced methods to deal with potential battery incidents in vehicles and larger industrial setups. Participants will also explore energy storage solutions that utilize lithium ion technology.
