Assistant Fire Chief
Responding to around 91,000 service calls each year, the San José Fire Department (SJFD) is a high-volume, high-performance, full-service fire department that serves more than 1 million residents and several high-hazard occupancies. SJFD has 711 sworn personnel and a FY 2020-21 operating budget of $263 million. The Assistant Fire Chief assumes full command of the Fire Department in the absence of the Fire Chief. The ideal candidate has in-depth knowledge of the modern principles, practices, and techniques of Fire Department administration, organization, and operation including: strategic planning, organizational management, budget development, cost control, policy development, succession planning, and discipline. They will represent the department with the highest degree of professionalism and maintain a positive relationship between labor and management. They will report to duty ready to roll up their sleeves and complete construction of several large capital improvement projects.
Requires current employment as a Fire Captain, Battalion Chief, Division Chief, or Deputy Fire Chief, preferably in the state California.
Salary: $153,324 - $237,150 + benefits
