The Arcata Fire District is hiring Fire Captains!

The Arcata Fire District is a single-purpose Special District, independent from the County of Humboldt and the City of Arcata; governed by a Board of Directors who are elected by the voters. The District is a combination fire protection agency (career and volunteer firefighters) protecting 37,000 residents living amongst industrial, commercial, residential, agricultural, beaches, and Wildland Urban Interface areas. Located on the coast of Northern California, the District protects the City of Arcata, the communities of McKinleyville, Bayside, Manila, Jacoby Creek, and other rural areas for a total service area of 62 square miles.

This position will serve as a fire station shift supervisor in an operational assignment. The Fire Captain will supervise and direct the work of assigned subordinate Firefighters and Fire Engineers by providing training and pre-incident planning, and directing fire safety inspections, public education, and equipment and facility maintenance. Fire Captains will respond to fire, medical, hazardous material, technical rescues and other types of emergency, non-emergency, and hazardous incidents and provides on-scene working supervision for the incident commander to assist with incident command and control and manage the appropriate actions to control the emergency and care of the sick and injured. The successful candidate will have five years of progressive experience in the fire service that included fire suppression, EMT-level emergency medical assistance, and apparatus operation, six months successful performance in a permanent or acting company officer role, a high school diploma/GED and related certifications.
