VIDEO: The Hickory Hills Fire Department said it has some employees it could hire back if a change to the state's pension system is made. House Bill 2051 would allow those who are eligible for the pension to also continue working for a volunteer department. "I think it's great," Hickory Hills Fire Chief Craig Youngblood said. "I think it's a great thing. I think it will help. Anything they can do for volunteers that will help us is beneficial." The bill passed the Oklahoma House of Representatives unanimously on Thursday. Youngblood said this will allow departments to hire experienced firefighters where they're needed the most. He said the change the bill would make would allow the community to be served better and the knowledge of retired firefighters is invaluable. The bill now heads to the Senate. The house majority leader said 85 percent of all firefighters in Oklahoma are volunteers.
