PHOTOS: Several people had to be evacuated after a fire truck crashed into an apartment building on San Antonio's Northwest Side. The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex off Hillcrest Drive and W. Quill Drive near Bandera Road. San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood said it all started when Engine 27 was on its way to a fire call when it was hit by a speeding car. The fire truck then crashed into the apartment building that also took out the staircase that led up to the second floor. In all, 17 people had to be evacuated from eight apartment units because Chief Hood said the building was structurally unstable. Firefighters had to use a ladder to evacuate some residents from their apartments due to the staircase being destroyed.
