VIDEO/PHOTOS: Sunday marked three years since a deadly natural gas explosion killed two people and injured two dozen others west of downtown Durham. A contractor installing underground cables struck a gas line outside the Kaffeinate coffee shop on North Duke Street on April 10, 2019. The Durham Fire Department made an Instagram post Sunday about the explosion: “What started out as a typical sunny spring day quickly turned into the day this community would never forget. Courageous efforts were displayed by all of the emergency service and utility company personnel on scene. Tragically lives were lost and life changing physical and psychological injuries were had. But in true Bull City fashion we grew stronger, closer, and more prideful of this great community. Pour one out for this day and say a prayer for those who perished, may they continue to Rest In Peace.”
