VIDEO: Thursday's subway train derailment on the Upper West Side is causing major delays for the 1, 2, and 3 train lines, according to the MTA.
MTA officials said the first car of a 1 train made contact with a disabled train that was vandalized just north of the 96th Street station around 3 p.m., causing the first car of the passenger train to derail.
At least 26 people, mostly passengers, suffered minor injuries, but the lasting impact will be felt by commuters trying to get to work or school. As of Friday morning, the 1, 2, and 3 trains still had severe disruptions.
In a press conference on Friday, MTA officials said severe subway disruptions will continue throughout the day, The MTA says it is working to fix and remove disabled cars, and hopes to have some service restored later Friday.
