As Brittany Jones and her fiancé Mike Freeland drove down a road in Jacksonville on Aug 16, 2019, they spotted a car on fire. As a seasoned newsperson, Jones was familiar with pulling over to cover spot news, but this situation was different. She was not working. While her Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department firefighter fiancé also was off duty, there was no way he was going to pass a motorist in great distress and not help. He immediately stopped the car and jumped into action, while Brittany watched. “Mike ran to a nearby Wendy’s and got a fire extinguisher and put those flames out,” an impressed Jones said. “Mike was adamant about helping this motorist in distress, that was his character, his heart. He cared about people.”
