Fire crews from all around the Valley responded to a two story house fire on South Bodenburg Loop, about a mile south of the reindeer farm early Wednesday morning.
The house was originally reported to be fully involved, but upon arrival, firefighters determined it was 25 to 30 percent involved and later pinpointed the location to an apartment attached to the house itself just before 3 a.m. An ambulance also responded to the house fire. Just after 3 a.m., firefighters were short on manpower and continued to call crews from the Butte, Palmer, Central, and Lakes fire departments. At that time, crews expected to be on scene for three to four hours containing the fire. Smoke filled the street and drifted east toward the river. At 3:30 a.m., firefighters were still battling heavy fire in the attic and crawlspace. Just before 4:00 a.m., all fire crews were pulled from inside the building and it was declared to be a defensive only fire.
