A fire near Delta Junction received some much needed moisture yesterday as rain fell on the blaze.
According to an Oregon Lakes Fire Update from the Bureau of Land Management, the rain calmed the fire activity as firefighters continue to extend and strengthen firebreaks ahead of the fire. While the burn operation provides an obstacle to prevent the fire’s movement, it will not put the fire out. However, cooler weather over the weekend will allow firefighters to concentrate on fortifying firebreaks before warmer, drier weather rolls in on Sunday.
The fire started on April 30 and is currently burning at 14,265 acres. There are 130 personnel and four crews assigned to the blaze. So far the estimated cost of the blaze is at $1,000,000.
A Temporary Flight Restriction is in place over the fire area to prevent outside aircraft, including military aircraft, from interfering with the suppression efforts.
The fire is said to be human-caused and is under investigation.
