The Barley Way Fire remains at 310 acres and containment increased to 90% as of Tuesday, May 23. Hotshot crews continued with mop up operations throughout the day on Monday and have been monitoring for hot spots while heavy equipment has been working on the fire to help prevent any new spread. On Tuesday, the Midnight Sun Hotshots worked from the heel of the fire, continuing to search for hot spots and ensuring they are extinguished and the burned area is cool. The Chena Hotshots continued enforcing the containment line to prohibit any advancement of the fire. The Division of Forestry & Fire Protection’s White Mountain Type 2 Module mobilized to the fire from Fairbanks and are on scene aiding in operations. The hotshot crews are expected to demobilize in the coming days so they can be available for new starts.
