Deputies in DeKalb County didn’t have to look far to find their suspect in a recent house fire – he was lying next to the burning structure. Jody Gardner, 53, is charged with arson in the second degree in connection to the June 15 incident. Deputies said they were dispatched Saturday night to County Road 396 in response to reports that a man had set the house of a family member on fire and had allegedly threatened responding firefighters. Deputies at the scene found Gardner lying on the ground next to the burning home. He was arrested and taken to DeKalb County Detention Center. His bond has not been set.
