Mobile Fire-Rescue Department responded to an apartment fire at Serenity Apartments on Azalea Road Wednesday afternoon. Mobile Fire-Rescue said the fire began in building K. It was a 3-alarm fire. NBC 15's tower camera was able to pick up thick smoke coming from the building. Neighbors told us they jumped in to help get people out of the apartments. One man pulled a woman from the burning building. A firefighter was outside the window preparing to help, but MFRD said the woman was in shock and "couldn’t cooperate." The firefighter was gearing up with a mask, gloves and regulator to go in the building to rescue her when the bystander rushed to assist. Mobile Fire-Rescue said between 12 and 16 units were damaged in the fire.
