Fourteen families have been displaced after a fire happened at Virginia Downs Apartments off Virginia Loop Road Monday afternoon. The flames destroyed part of the apartment complex and remains under investigation at this time. “Flames were coming through the roof once the units arrived. Units did do what they could to suppress the fire. Right now, it is approximately eight units that were involved,” Montgomery Fire Capt. K.R. Peoples said. Eight fire units responded to the two-alarm fire. At this time, there are no reports of injuries to any of the occupants or fire personnel. One family was in the unit when the fire broke out but escaped unharmed. The fire department doesn’t suspect any other apartment units were affected by the fire.
