Crews respond to wildfires spreading several hundred acres in Talladega National Forest

Authorities responded to two wildfires in Clay County that began Saturday morning and spread several hundred acres, according to the Alabama Forestry Commission. At least one of the fires was reported shortly after 10:00 a.m. in the Talladega National Forest, Talladega District near Cheaha State Park. The "Fall Branch" wildfire was reported at Talladega Scenic Drive/Highway 281 and Alabama Highway 49 east to Cheaha State Park. Officials with the U.S. Forest Service - National Forests in Alabama said this fire is burning around 400 acres as of Sunday morning. The "Duck Nest" wildfire was reported off Forest Service Road (FS) 651 and 642 intersection east of FS road 651 to Cheaha State Park and is reportedly burning around 200 acres. Authorities said the fires are in a remote area and no structures or property are threatened.
