Firefighter injured as crews work to put out 'heavy fire and smoke' at Birmingham house

VIDEO: A firefighter was injured as crews worked to put out a house fire in Birmingham Monday morning. It happened at an unoccupied house and in the 1700 block of 26th Avenue North just after 10:30 a.m. Another home was damaged from heat and smoke exposure to the fire. Two people were displaced from that home. When crews arrived, they found "heavy fire and smoke," according to Birmingham Fire Rescue. A firefighter was treated at the scene for a minor burn injury to his hand. The fire was under control within 45 minutes. The cause is under investigation.
