Tuscaloosa city officials on Thursday broke ground on a new Fire Station 6 at the intersection of Hargrove Road East and Loop Road.
Mayor Walt Maddox, District 6 Councilor John Faile and Tuscaloosa Fire Chief Randy Smith each spoke during the ceremony.
“Fire Station 6 is going to mean so much to so many people in this area,” Maddox said. “Fire stations serve for generations, and I have no doubt that this new facility will be equipped to do just that, and make sure that our fire department continues to operate at our standard of excellence.”
The city said the new Fire Station 6 will replace an aging station that would've been 57 years old this year.
“I’m so excited about this fire station and for these firefighters that now get to have their own home again,” Faile said.
