One person was taken to the hospital following a heat-related illness call on Wednesday. Rural Metro Fire says it got a call to the Tanque Verde Ridge trail head in Saguaro National Park East. Firefighters had to hike about one mile to the patient with a heat-related illness. The patient was flown out of the wilderness area to a paramedic unit that then went to the hospital. Rural Metro says the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the Southern Arizona Rescue Association also assisted in the rescue. With warmer temperatures expected, hikers need to remember to stay hydrated and plan hikes during the cooler parts of the day.
