Appreciation for first responders was behind a brief presentation Saturday at Benson Walmart. Fire trucks and law enforcement vehicles lined the east portion front of the building at 201 S. Prickly Pear before a small crowd that included local first responders from police, fire and ambulance. Mayor Toney King proclaimed Nov. 9 First Responder Appreciation Day, and thanked local responders for the job they do and for going above and beyond for the citizens in the communities which comprise the San Pedro Valley. Gary Lakin of the Benson Walmart store had been organizing the event for more than a year, he said. “It’s to show that there are places where we do appreciate our first responders and our police officers, that’s why I presented this.
