VIDEO: More than 60 firefighters responded to a fire that started at a discount store 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street, according to officials with the Phoenix Fire Department. Phoenix fire crews arrived at the strip mall where the fire started around 4 a.m. Sunday. Crews were able to contain the fire to the discount store, with surrounding buildings only seeing minimal damage from smoke. The fire was contained around 6:30 a.m. Captain Danny Gile of the Phoenix Fire Department said. For several hours, fire crews remained on scene to monitor the area.
