PHOTOS: Firefighters are trying to gain control of a wildfire that is burning in the Superstition Mountains. According to the U.S. Forest Service, the lightning-caused Superstition Fire has burned 2,664 acres north of the Peralta Trailhead, which is northeast of Gold Canyon. There is zero containment since the fire started last Thursday. It's burning light grass and brush. A public safety closure begins Aug. 26, and will include areas west of Peralta Canyon Road, areas north of Peralta Canyon Road, and the Peralta Trail. Firefighters have been battling the flames from the air because the terrain is too rugged for them to fight it on the ground. They are patrolling the area to keep an eye on the flames. The south and west portions of the fire are continuing to hold at this time. The majority of the fire’s progression is to the north and east. A Type 2 Incident Management Team has been ordered to help stop the fire's progression.
