Arizona reported more than 5,000 new COVID-19 cases and 25 new deaths Sunday as infection and hospitalization numbers continue their weeks-long upward trend statewide.
Sunday's 5,376 new cases followed Saturday's 6,799, the highest number reported in the state since the infection began with the exception of Tuesday's 10,300, which represented a backlog of cases from over Thanksgiving.
These daily cases are grouped by the date they are reported to the Arizona Department of Health Services, not by the date the tests were administered.
Sunday's additions brought the total number of identified COVID-19 cases in the state to 364,276. As of Sunday, 6,950 Arizonans have died from the viral infection.
According to the latest numbers published on the state's data dashboard, 91% of ICU beds and 89% of all in-patient beds in Arizona were in use, with 41% of ICU beds and 34% of non-ICU beds used by COVID-19 patients.
