VIDEO: A family was able to safely escape a house fire at their home in Phoenix early Wednesday morning. More than three decades ago, a plane crashed into this same house killing the family's daughter, fire officials say.
According to Capt. Kenny Overton, today's fire broke out in the attic of the house located near 16th Street and Osborn Road just after midnight. The homeowners were woken up by smoke alarms and made it out of the house with their dog before fire crews arrived. Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the attic of the house. Crews were able to contain the fire to the attic space. Overton told Arizona's Family that on Memorial Day weekend in 1988 a small, single-engine plane slammed into the house, killing the three people on board as well as a child swimming in the pool.
