Man dies in workplace accident in downtown Phoenix

A 27-year-old man has died after a workplace accident in the area of 1st Avenue and Van Buren Street on Tuesday morning. It happened at an Arizona State University construction site around 11:45 a.m., police said. A statement from DPR Construction said the subcontractor worker was hit by materials. Firefighters transported the man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. ASU said a new residence hall for the downtown Phoenix campus is being built at the construction site. Phoenix police, ASU and OSHA investigators are working together to figure out what exactly happened. "We are deeply saddened to report that a subcontractor worker died as a result of an incident that occurred today on our ASU Downtown Phoenix Residence Hall project. The worker suffered injuries as a result of being struck by materials.
