At 2 pm Tuesday, two Prescott Fire Department engine companies responded to a report of a woman with an ankle injury on the Thumb Butte trail. Firefighters utilized the department’s 6x6 Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) to quickly reach the patient, a woman in her 30’s, who was hiking with her family on the trail when she slipped and rolled her ankle. Firefighters were able to stabilize the injury, load the patient onto the OHV, and drive her down the trail to a waiting ambulance. She was transported by Lifeline Ambulance to Yavapai Regional Medical Center for further treatment of her injury. Local hiking trails and recreational sites have seen an increased use since the closure of schools and businesses in the area and the department has experienced an uptick in responses to these areas.
