PHOTO: The Douglas police and fire departments let healthcare providers in Douglas know just how much they are valued, especially during this COVID-19 crisis, with an appreciation parade on Thursday.
DFD Fire Chief Kevin Lomeli said the idea for the parade came from the nationwide show of support first responders have been extending towards healthcare workers in their communities.
“We wanted to do something similar in Douglas,” he said. “It’s important to let them know that we are thinking about them each and every day. They are in our thoughts and in our prayers. We have to get through this together. Without each other, there is not much we can do alone. This was a small way to say thank you and show our support.” Assistant Fire Chief Joe Alvarez, said, “These people have been doing an incredible job and we wanted them to know how much we appreciate them.”
